Show Update
Good Morning. I am just back from traveling to a few shows in the last two weeks. I was out in Utah at the Outdoor Retail Show and then off to Las Vegas for the Ski Show. We have been tracking the latest trends for the upcoming season. Even though we are barely through this winter we are already looking ahead to Winter 2008. Although Ladies Activewear is not necessarily at the forefront of fashion, there is a huge movement across america towards "active lifestyle"....that which you could wear to the gym or to the grocery store and wish you could wear to work because it is so comfortable!!! We are seeing a huge push toward Yoga inspired looks in amazing fabrics that everyone would want to wear. It is all about comfort while at the same time looking great! We saw a lot of this at the Outdoor Show. There is a lot going on with "green or sustainable" fibers in clothing (bamboo, cocona, etc....) Virtually all manufacturers at both the Outdoor show and the ski show offered something in their line that was "green or eco-conscious." This was a clear mission that resonated across both shows. More to come later...

Hi Melissa,
That's sounds exciting. Are there other colors associated with the eco-conscious movement besides green?
Hi Nancy,
Sorry I am just checking back in now! Lots of travel lately! The color palatte we are seeing is muted and soft colors. For bottoms it is all about black and various shades of brown. When you move into tops that is where we get some color....lots of muted soft colors...shades of pink and turq outside of just green. The market has been talking a lot about yellow as well and we are seeing some of that starting to make its way around.
Melissa,

My daughter (14 y/o) is thinking of heading down a 'design' career path. Her top 3 career choices (as of right now) are interior design, landscape design and fashion design. She is on the path to hit AP Art Studio as a high school senior. I was wondering if, when you have time of course, you could post a bit about what type of schooling, personality and what not one can expect in the fashion buying industry. I am assuming picking up a few high school business classes and marketing would be a good idea! As for college, I'm guessing a Fashion Merchandising Major?

I think this type of career would be right up her alley as well.

Thanks!
Brenda
